Jobless Rate Up

Mississippi's unemployment rate has gone up, meaning more of the state's residents are out of work. The rate for October was six point six percent, up from the September rate of five point seven percent.

The highest unemployment rate was 16.8 percent found in Clarke County. Rankin County had the state's lowest rate at three point four percent.

The national unadjusted rate for October was five point three percent. The Mississippi Employment Commission released the figures Tuesday.

The commission says weather-related agricultural job losses was one factor contributing to the higher unemployment rate.

October was a wet month and many workers couldn't return to their fields.
