The father of country music was remembered during the annual wreath-laying ceremony Thursday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Meridian.
"We always take time out on the anniversary to look at his legacy and at his resting place at Oak Grove," said Van McCarty of the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation.
Jimmie Rodgers died May 26, 1933. He is highly regarded for being more than just the father of country music. He was the first to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, but is also a member of the Songwriters and Blues Halls of Fame.
