The chairman of "The 'A' Team" is Tom Williams, manager of the Meridian Regional Airport. He calls the group probably the best prepared in the United States to fight the closure of an Air Guard station.
Its members are people who have fought the Navy and base closure commissions three times before, along with some recent retirees from the 186th.
"So we've got a group who knows how the BRAC Commission thinks and we've got a group that knows the 186th and that is a winning combination," Williams said. "We're going to do the best we can with that."
That group has started to develop its strategy for the upcoming fight.
"We're in the very early stages of trying to develop a strategy, and once we do develop a strategy, it's something that we're going to work but we're not going to be able to talk about. We're one of 28 units nationwide with this same issue."
One part of the strategy is getting a member of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission to come Meridian and see for themselves what Meridian has. Williams said that could make the difference.
