A university study suggests that retiree recruitment translates into economic impact.
Rebecca Gentry, retirement coordinator for the City of Meridian, says there are many advantages to retiree recruitment. She says each retiree household is equivalent to 3.7 factory jobs.
"They validated our program. The results of the study proved that recruiting retirees is in fact an economic development tool," said Rebecca Gentry of Meridian's Retiree Recruitment Program. "Retirees are more likely to volunteer for different community organizations. Retirees also contribute to the school's tax base, and more times than not, they don't have any children in school."
Meridian is one of 19 certified retirement communities in the state.
