A spokeswoman for Representative Ronnie Shows says that Shows may run for Tuck's job next year.
According to news reports, Tuck will announce on Monday her defection from the Democratic Party to become a Republican.
Cassie Sheldon, a spokeswoman for Shows, a Democrat, said Friday that Shows has received calls from elected officials and friends encouraging him to run. Sheldon said he was "definitively considering it."
Meanwhile, Republican state chairman Jim Herring said he was excited by the prospect of Tuck defecting to the GOP. Some party members, though, are wary.
Republican State Senator Tim Johnson, who is considering running for Tuck's post, said he did not want to see Tuck use the Republican Party for her own ambitions.
Herring said Thompson is in the minority and that most state Republicans would welcome her.
