One of two suspects accused in the abduction of a former assistant secretary of state has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Adam Jones of Lena is charged with kidnapping, carjacking, grand larceny and arson. He made an initial appearance Monday in Municipal Court in Forest.

Jones is being held without bond at the Scott County Detention Center.
He's accused of kidnapping Constance Slaughter-Harvey at gunpoint outside her Forest law office Dec. 19.

Slaughter-Harvey said she escaped by jumping from her moving vehicle, which one of the suspects was driving. The search continues for a second man, 19-year-old Danwawn Brown of Forest.

Authorities say Brown is considered armed and dangerous. Slaughter-Harvey says she represented Brown a few years ago. She says he's been in and out of the Columbia Training School and he's appeared in Youth Court about 10 times in recent years.

Police have been trying to determine if the attack against Slaughter-Harvey was random or personal. Police discovered her 2002 Lexus badly burned at a Forest mobile home. Her wallet and her own .38 caliber gun were taken.
