Celebrating the opening of a new business in the North Hills shopping district Monday, local dignitaries cut the ribbon on a new nail salon.
The Nail Connection opened in an existing building on Great River Drive.
Ward 1 Councilman, Dr. George Thomas, said North Hills is important to the local economy.
"We've gone from vacant property about 15 years ago to now we have more square footage of retail space than any other part of town, including the mall area," said Thomas. "So it's a major economic growth factor in the city when you look at all the small businesses. Most of them are locally owned. They employ local folks. So it's a major economic factor in our city."
The Nail Connection occupies space previously leased to other businesses.
