The long recovery of a Meridian soldier injured in Iraq is the subject of a new book called "A Soldier's Courage."

Janis Galatas writes about her husband, Sergeant Norris Galatas', survival of a bomb blast in April 2005 and the years of surgeries that followed.

The book is self published and the Galatases say they hope to bring awareness to the sacrifices made by American soldiers injured in the line of duty.

Thanks to all the people who have supported the Galatases during their time of distress. This incident of war and terrorism bestowed upon this family (as many US soldiers families and Iraqi families have endured) can show that positive support and compassion remain an undying human trait. Our family has been touched by these special people...the medics, the surgical team, the media, and the civilian support...support that is evident by the response of people across the US and abroad. It is my opportunity now, to give thanks to all those people who have helped my sister and my brother-in-law, Norris Galatas, during this trying time since the bomb blast in April 2005. Thank you for all your support. Also, special thanks to WTOK TV here in our home town of Meridian for your excellent support of our family.

That was a great story you did on Norris and Janis and their book, "A Soldier's Courage." Thank you! In August 2007, I met Norris at Walter Reed where he has been recovering and later met Janis who came to stay while he was recovering from another surgery. They are truly some of the finest, good hearted people you can meet. I have two copies of their book and enjoyed reading it. The book has lots of valuable tips for injured soldiers and their families. It gives folks insight into the military life and what it is like to recover from an IED explosion in Iraq. The book also has heart warming accounts of the American people and the good things they did for Norris, Janis, and other soldiers. Thank you again for doing the story about them. It was excellent!

Just to let you know that although I have never met the Galatas'in person I have been in touch with them for about 2 years. My son served with him in Iraq and that is how I got to meet Janis. From all I know of them they are very strong and wonderful people and I was so happy to see that you gave them time on your show. I have bought and read Janis's book when it first came out and it is wonderful reading. I learned a lot from it, some of which my son never told me about. It's good to know as now I can fully understand what our service men and women really go through. I just hope that by putting it on the air more people will go out and buy it. Thank you for giving them the time on the air. They both deserve it.
