The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department and the Meridian Police Department have apprehended a fugitive. It happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Brandon Deon Ward, 22, of Alabama was captured at a relative's house in the 600 block of 44th Avenue in Meridian.
Officials say Ward escaped from the Autauga County, Ala., jail Friday while working at a work detail site near the jail.
Lauderdale County Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said the U.S. Marshal's Jackson and Montgomery task forces informed the sheriff's office that Ward might be in this area.
"So it's nice to have him back off the streets and we're glad that was done," said Calhoun. "And any time we help others, we know that it may be a day that they need to help us. And it's about law enforcement working together to get the job done."
Ward was serving time for a burglary charge and was expected to be released in May. Now more time will added if he's convicted of escape.
Ward will remain in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility until he is returned to Alabama.
