Former Alabama governor, Don Siegelman, has left the federal prison at Oakdale, La., after being released on appeal bond. He says he remains upbeat despite being incarcerated for nine months on his conviction in a corruption case.
Siegelman said he lost his freedom, but "I never lost faith."

The former governor left the prison in a black sport utility vehicle and stopped on the road outside the lockup to speak briefly to reporters. He wore a ragged shirt that appeared to be prison clothing.

Siegelman declined further comment. He said he would make a statement when he reaches his home in Birmingham. He was placed in federal custody after being sentenced in June 2007 to more than seven years in prison on six bribery-related counts and one obstruction of justice count.
