Gray Television Group, Inc., owner of WTOK, the ABC affiliated television station in Meridian announced the fall launch of a new station to be affiliated with the FOX Television Network.

The station, to be known as FOX Meridian, will be available over the air digitally, on local cable systems, and on Dish Network direct broadcast satellite.

WTOK's digital broadcast channel has the capability of carrying multiple streams of programming allowing for both the High Definition ABC channel and the new FOX channel to be transmitted from the same facility.

WTOK's current program lineup of local, syndicated, and ABC network programs will continue to be available as it is currently. WTOK enjoys a great partnership with the ABC Television Network and will continue as one of ABC's strongest affiliates.

FOX Meridian will be home to great primetime programming like American Idol, House, The O.C., and The Simpsons, great sporting events like the Daytona 500 and a full slate of NASCAR races, the NFL's New Orleans Saints, Major League Baseball's game of the week, the League Championship Series and the World Series, plus next year Fox will be the home of college football's Bowl Championship Series.

FOX Meridian will allow WTOK additional opportunities to provide news and public affairs programs geared to our local communities as well.

Gray Television also announced an agreement in principle with Global Communications of Meridian to provide programming and marketing services to WGBC-TV, the local NBC affiliate. WTOK's association with that station will begin August 1, 2005.

"This is an exciting time for the Gray Television family," said Tim Walker, General Manager of WTOK-TV. We look forward to providing this area with three local channels of quality television in the great tradition that is WTOK."
