The United Way of East Mississippi held its annual school supply giveaway Wednesday at the Frank Cochran Center.

Long lines of people waited to get the free supplies. United Way officials say it's a way to help students start the year right.

"This is a display of the community. We want all the children to have a level playing field, and this is one of the ways we show our appreciation for the community, the kids in the community," said Thad Quarles, executive director of the United Way of East Mississippi.

Immunization shots were also available at the event.
