The Mississippi Department of Health is preparing for the possibility of a bioterror attack in the state, and in our area.
It conducted a mock attack in Meridian Wednesday to help in those preparations. It involved law enforcement, health care providers and emergency management personnel.
According to a spokesman for the Health Department in Jackson, the drill was part of the "Healthy-Secure-Mississippi" campaign.
Media was barred from observing the drill or conducting interviews.
"Only properly-credentialed participants are allowed within the facility. For information on this drill, contact the Office of Communications at 601-576-7667," said Gay Willcutt.
Earlier this year the Health Department announced its intentions to enhance response capabilities for public health threats.
