The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department has compiled the data from its speeding survey.
Sheriff Billy Sollie described the results as alarming. The department will present its findings to the board of supervisors and to the Mississippi Legislature, as part of a comprehensive study by sheriffs statewide.
"Because we are hopeful that next year they are going to give sheriffs the tools necessary to monitor, detect and bring to justice those who chose to put our lives in danger," said Sollie.
According to the data, at one of the five locations used in the speed survey, 96 percent of drivers exceeded the posted speed limit by at least 11 miles per hour.
