The University of Mississippi reports an increase in enrollment for the 10th consecutive year. Initial figures show a record 16,947 students are taking classes this fall. It's a 2.7 percent increase from a year ago.
Numbers calculated Sept. 17 and released by UM include record numbers of Mississippi residents and black students. More than 70 percent of this year's students are Mississippians (11,879), and more than 15 percent are black (2,242).
A total of 105 undergraduate, graduate and law students transferred to Ole Miss from campuses damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
