Robberies Probed

Local authorities, with help from the public, quickly captured a White male robbery suspect this afternoon. He allegedly robbed the Dixie
Pak-a-Sak at 3510 Hwy. 11/80 around 1:30 p.m.

The suspect escaped in a maroon Yukon SUV with Mississippi plates.

"Once again a citizen being the eyes and ears of law enforcement notified the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department that a vehicle matching the description was here on Susan Kennedy Road," said Sheriff Billy Sollie. "One of our deputies responded quickly and was able to take the individual in custody."

The sheriff's department identified the suspect as Delany Eugene
McWilliams, 28, of Meridian. His bond on an armed robbery charge was set at $15,000.

Meridian Police are investigating a Tuesday night armed robbery at El Cheapo on Highway 493. A heavy-set White male entered the store about 9:45 p.m. It was caught on a store surveillance tape.

"The gunman came into the store wearing a ski mask and holding a shotgun," said detective Dean Harper, "but no injuries were reported at the scene.

Any information about the robbery may be reported to Meridian Crimestoppers at 485-1860.
