Victims Recover, Hospitals Cope

Most of the victims of Thursday's tornado who were brought to Meridian for treatment have since been released from the hospital.

Twelve victims were carried to Rush Hospital. We are told that all but two of those have since been released. As for the two remaining in the hospital they are said to be in good condition.

Meanwhile, four victims were taken to Anderson Hospital where they were treated and released.

In the meantime, blood donations are needed. United Blood Service officials say they have less than one day's supply of blood available.

Because of the shortage they say some hospitals are being forced to do without.

"Some things are having to be put on hold," said UBS spokesman Susan Morris. "Some surgeries could potentially be cancelled or postponed. It's a very difficult situation. We've got about a day's supply on the shelves which is very concerning to us since we supply blood for 76 hospitals across Alabama and Mississippi."

The United Blood Service office in Meridian is located at 1115 25th avenue. Officials say an appointment is not necessary.
