At T.J. Harris Elementary School in Meridian, the classrooms were quiet Wednesday as teachers prepared for the opening of classes.
Administrators are expecting over 600 students at Harris for 2005-2006. Of course, thousands will converge on all campuses Thursday.
For the past two days, teachers have been enrolled in an effective schools and classroom management workshop designed to give them an edge in the coming school year.
"We are expecting great things from our students, from our parents, our teachers. Everyone has come in and we're excited about the new school year," said Amy Carter, Principal of T.J. Harris Elementary.
Carter said the school has adopted a theme this year, "motivating all students to succeed."
