The newly-appointed state superintendent of education is on a tour of Mississippi schools.
Dr. Hank Bounds is a native of Hattiesburg. This is the first time in years that a Mississippi native has held the state superintendent of education title.
Bounds has 14 years in education and he says he intends to see that students have every opportunity to lead successful, meaningful and prosperous lives.
"My mission as state superintendent is to find ways, develop methods, create a department that will ensure that academic achievement is accelerated for all students across the state," Bounds said.
Bounds officially took on the position Aug. 1.
