The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center is one step closer to being built because of a huge grant coming from the Mississippi Arts Commission building fund.
The grant is for $301,000 and will be used primarily for creating the schematic for the center.
Officials with the Arts and Entertainment Center applied for the grant several months ago. It was awarded Thursday.
"The $301,000 is just part of what we need, but it's a huge start and we're thrilled," said MAEC executive director Charlotte Tabereaux.
Once the contract is awarded, the Arts and Entertainment Center is expected to take nine months to build.
