Work Authorized for Old Delco Plant

A new business is apparently considering moving to Meridian, and specifically, moving into the old Delco-Remy building.

The Meridian City Council has authorized a payment of about $800,000 to fix the roof of the structure.

Lauderdale County also plans to spend a like amount to help renovate it.

Officials won't say much about the company considering moving in, other than it would employ 200 people to start and could eventually employ 400 people. These jobs would apparently be well paying.

City Council President George Thomas says a decision could be made in two weeks.

The building at Meridian's South Industrial Park has been vacant for more than eight years.
