East Kemper Elementary School is remembering one of its former teachers in a permanent way.
Trees were planted there Thursday in memory of Dora McCoy, who died of cancer in February.
Her colleagues say McCoy, who taught fifth grade, committed a lot of her time to her students in over 30 years of teaching.
"She was very dedicated and came to work every day. The day before she passed, she was at work. She was at our last PTA meeting. The day of her death, she was scheduled to go to a workshop," said principal Mary Smart. "We just want to do something special for her, so we're planting these two trees outside of her classroom."
Smart said the school will ask the board of education to allow the hall outside her classroom to be named 'McCoy Hall'.
