On the heals of Mississippi being declared a federal disaster area, Meridian Mayor John Robert Smith discussed some of the options available to those individuals at his news conference Wednesday.
"You can phone. You can go online. You can go to the (Meridian-Lauderdale County) library, which is open from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Steve (McCartney) called me and said the library would be open and would have Internet access," Smith said. “They will have some staff there to help walk someone through that. Or, they can go to the disaster relief center when it opens in downtown meridian. "
There is no word yet on when the disaster relief center will open in Meridian, but you can contact Federal Emergency Management Officials at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or log on to disasterhelp.gov to register for assistance.
