Rumors of some shelters closing are untrue, according to at least one shelter manager.
Shannon Dockery manages the shelter in Livingston, Ala. She says there are certain steps that must be taken before a Red Cross shelter can close.
"We have to give a 24-hour notice before we can close and when we do that we either transition them to a larger shelter in Tuscaloosa, which only has a few people in it as of right now, or FEMA has a place in Wind Creek State Park where they have little mobile type things, like travel trailers set up where they can go," Dockery said.
At this time, Dockery says there are no plans to close the shelter in Livingston.
