The National Weather Service says unconfirmed tornadoes were reported in Alcorn and Union counties Friday night causing damage to at least two dozen homes in Union County.
Officials say about 4,500 Northeast Mississippi Electric Power Association customers Saturday were without power and two emergency shelters had opened in Myrtle.
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Lea Stokes says between 25 and 30 homes were reported damaged late Friday night, but that number could grow.
At least six homes were also reported damaged in Panola County.
Violent storms in Arkansas are being blamed for at least seven deaths and damage to hundreds of homes.
There were no reports of storm-related deaths in Mississippi.
Officials say numerous reports of penny- to nickel-size hail and damaging winds across Mississippi and Louisiana resulted in downed trees, power lines and other damage.
