Special Session

Updated: Mon 11:09 AM, Jun 17, 2002

Gov. Ronnie Musgrove is calling a special legislative session for June 21 to push an economic package to support expansion of the Nissan Project in Canton.

Nissan has a $930 million plant under construction in Madison County. Officials had hoped Nissan's plan to boost sales worldwide would bring jobs to the state.

Musgrove says the expansion could be good news for East Mississippi. With Nissan suppliers locating in Forest, Greenvile and Tupelo, Musgrove says the circle for suppliers is expanding, and will do so even more if Nissan expands.

Nissan officials say they intend to boost production by a million vehicles and raise profit margins by March 2005.
