Meridian, Miss. Meridian's Air National Guard base is the first to receive a brand new technology that will enhance the operational efficiency of the 186th Air Refueling Wing.
Members of the community turned out Wednesday to join in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the first-of-its-kind Boom Operator System Simulator, also known as BOSS.
The commander of the 186th, Col. Mike Nabors, says this new technology adds to the growing capabilities in Meridian.
"It's a full motion system simulator for boom operators, can lay in the back of this simulator, and refuel a variety of aircraft throughout the Air Force inventory without ever leaving the ground," said Nabors. "Starting with the Key brothers and the birthplace of air refueling, I think that it's fitting that Meridian continues to be number one."
Nabors says this simulator comes at just the right time to train young boom operators during the conversion back to the KC 135s.
