Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker said the fight for wind and water coverage for Gulf Coast residents is not over.

The Senate Wednesday defeated an amendment offered by Wicker and Sen. Thad Cochran.

It would have added "multiple peril" coverage to the National Flood Insurance Program.

Wicker said the measure was strongly opposed by the insurance industry.

"And it really seems to me that we ought to be able to be working with the insurance companies on this issue," said Wicker. hey don't offer wind insurance on the Gulf Coast and basically all up and down the eastern seaboard. The private insurance companies are not offering this coverage."

Wicker said the down side is residents are being forced into state-run wind pools that are too small to spread the risk.
