A local doctor went to extremes Friday to raise money for the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life, and he's not quite the same for it.

Dr. Kevin Ward challenged employees at Rush Hospital to donate money for Relay, giving their money either in favor of him shaving his head, or in favor of him keeping the hair.

Not surprisingly, the head shavers won, and Ward got his locks lopped off.

"I thought, well that would be a good thing to do, since I'm involved with caring for patients with cancer, to empathize with them, by shaving my hair, if I could raise enough money," said Ward. "And we more than raised enough money for me to do this."

As a matter of fact, the fundraiser managed to bring in about $1800 for Relay for Life.
