Amtrak to Resume New Orleans Run

Amtrak plans to resume train service from New Orleans on Sunday, the first rail passenger service since Hurricane Katrina hit the region August 29.

Amtrak says the City of New Orleans will begin running again to Memphis and Chicago, while the Crescent will resume its route to Atlanta and New York.

Amtrak said service on the Sunset Limited, a three-day-a-week train from Orlando to Los Angeles will remain suspended.

Officials say service will resume later on that route to Beaumont and Houston, Tex., but eastern service will not begin until at least 2006 because of extensive damage to tracks and bridges owned by CSX Transportation.
