Mississippi insurance commissioner George Dale continues meeting with the leaders of major insurance companies.
Insurers and some policyholders have been at odds over claims in south Mississippi.
Was the damage caused by winds or floods? Dale said he hopes to negotiate a compromise.
"We take the position, if it's inconclusive, come down on the side of the consumer," said Dale. "I think I'm doing my job, because perhaps both sides are unhappy. The consumers think I'm in bed with the insurance companies. The insurance companies, particularly out of state, are criticizing me because they say I'm trying to pressure them into paying claims that they don't owe. I'm caught in the middle where you can't win."
Dale says some companies have done a better job than others in getting adjusters in the field to make assessments and resolve claims.
