Ellisville, Miss. At least 19 cars of a northbound freight train derailed Friday morning near Ellisville and authorities say there were no injuries.
Rodney Parker, with the Jones County Emergency Management, said the accident happened around 4:15 a.m. under the Mississippi Highway 590 overpass at U.S. Highway 11 in Jones County.
Parker said the Norfolk Southern train was northbound when the cars ran off the track. He said none of the cars overturned and there was no hazardous material involved.
Parker said crews from the Mississippi Department of Transportation and Norfolk Southern were coming in to put the cars back on the tracks and make repairs.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Officials say roads were closed in the area to let cleanup crews work.
The American Red Cross East Central and South Mississippi Chapters said volunteers and staff were sent to provide canteen support for first responders.
