The Legislature's budgeting process has taken another detour with the canceling of the annual hearings where state agencies present funding plans to House and Senate leaders.
The hearings had been moved from September to October because of Hurricane Katrina. The Legislature was in session this past week, delaying them again.
Lieutenant Governor Amy Tuck, chairwoman of the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, was forced to cancel the hearings entirely.
Tuck says the committee will receive written requests from the agencies before developing a budget.
With or without the hearings, Tuck says developing a budget proposal for January will not be easy for the legislative leadership because there are so many unknowns.
