Waynesboro attorney Sherra Hillman Lane has won a runoff election to fulfill the unexpired term for a Mississippi House post.
Lane received 1,549 votes to opponent Fred Stanley's 1,248 votes, according to complete but unofficial returns from Tuesday's election.
House District 86 covers Wayne County and portions of Clarke and Perry counties.
Lane, a Democrat, will replace Rep. Joe Taylor, who resigned after being elected mayor of Waynesboro this summer.
Stanley is owner of Check Time in Waynesboro and a former member of the Wayne County School Board.
Lane and Stanley led a six-candidate field in the first election on Sept. 27, but because neither received a simple majority, a runoff was necessary.
