Meridian "Mardi Gras" Planned

Meridian's Mardi Gras celebration has grown over the last two years and organizers hope this one will be the biggest yet.

Meridian Jaycees Wednesday announced details of the upcoming festival, set for Feb. 15.

The first phase will be family-oriented, with rides and games for kids, a talent show and a concert. It will be from 12 Noon to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free. A $5.00 armband will pay for all the rides and games for children.

At 6:00 p.m., gates will open for the main show. Tickets will be $5.00. The main attraction of the night will be a concert will be the band, Wayne Toops and Zaidoccasion, beginning at 9:00 p.m.

The event has been moved this year from the Dumont Plaza to the Singing Brakeman Park on Front Street in Meridian.

Organizers say it will be better able to accommodate what they expect will be a big crowd.
