Regency Opens at Riley
The recently opened Regency Hospital in Meridian is located on the second floor of the Riley Hospital building.
The 40-bed facility will provide care for patients with acute needs. Benny Costello said patients would stay there until they're healthy enough to go home or to a nursing home.
The hospital is located in Riley Hospital, but operated by Regency Hospitals of Georgia.
The hospital took its first patient on Monday and was certified by Medicare on Tuesday.
Officials expect the hospital could have eight patients within the next seven days and could have as many as 40 within the next six months.
Costello said the facility would help fill a need in the area.
Regency is opening hospitals like this one across the country, and they hope to have nine more like the one here in Meridian open by the end of the year.
There is only one other hospital of its kind in Meridian, Specialty Hospital of Meridian, located within Rush Foundation Hospital.
