What could be the first of many lawsuits against the federal government following Hurricane Katrina has been filed by more than a dozen victims from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
The suit, which asks for class-action status, wants to make the Federal Emergency Management Agency provide trailers or other housing alternatives immediately, especially for people still in shelters.
Those filing the suit claim that FEMA and other agencies wrongfully denied them temporary housing assistance.
The suit also asks that victims with larger families receive more money.
FEMA representatives say they haven't seen the lawsuit and therefore can't immediately comment.
