Fire Claims Resident

A house fire in Stonewall around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday claimed the life of an elderly woman.

Rosie Creighton, 84, of Stonewall, apparently died of smoke inhalation after she was unable to escape the fire.

The house is located at 213 Erwin Street.

The Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene at 3:04 a.m. Firefighters say the blaze began in Creighton's bedroom.

The cause is under investigation.
