Meridian Mayor John Robert Smith Thursday unveiled a road sign, renaming part of Poplar Springs Drive in Meridian, as Hartley Peavey Drive. Peavey thanked the city at the dedication, but he also asked for help.
"I would like to thank our community leaders for the recognition," said Peavey. "It does a lot of good and we appreciate it. But that's not going to help us compete and survive in the world."
Peavey also said competition is tougher today than ever before, mostly from foreign countries.
City councilman George Thomas said that Meridian is doing its part to make life easier for business.
"So anything the city can do, whether it's putting in a pipe or helping with a street or something like that - access to property - those kind of things we can do," said Thomas.
Peavey Electronics has been doing business from Meridian for 38 years and ships products to 136 countries worldwide.
