Houston Addresses Crime During Campaigning

Voters expressed their concerns about crime to a candidate running for Meridian city council.

Newscenter 11 caught up with ward four candidate Craig Houston as he went door-to-door, hearing from voters about the issues that matter to them. Houston says it will take members of the community and the police department working together to get a handle on the problem.

"We need community policing, we need more community watches, more neighborhood watches," Houston says. "We need more people coming together and working because we all got a stake in this. It's not fair for somebody to pay rent or mortgage and be afraid to come out of their house and sit on their porch. We want people to be treated fairly, but we want people to be safe and that's first and foremost."

Jessie Palmer, Sr. is among the candidates running for city council in ward four.
