Among the graduates was an evacuee from New Orleans. In Meridian since September, Tammy Bauer says at times it seemed as if this day would never come.
"It was difficult especially in the transition, just going back home and seeing that there was nothing left and having to come back and just go day-to-day, but it's been worth it. It's been great! I really appreciate what they've done," says Bauer.
Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Bower was attending the University of New Orleans. At this time she says she has not decided whether or not she and her family will return to the Crescent City. In all, 124 graduates were awarded diplomas as part of the ceremony.
