Meridian's City Hall will soon be getting a major multi-million dollar makeover, but it will mean the staff has to move out for about two years.
The Meridian City Council approved about $10 million in bonds Tuesday. Some of that will be used for the renovation.
One of the major problems at City Hall is the heating system. On this, one of the coldest days of the year so far, there was no heat on the second floor of the building.
"The heating and cooling system is dysfunctional. Today in my office we have no heat of any kind, and it was 20 degrees last night," said Smith. "You can see people wearing their sweaters and coats."
Money from the bond issue will also cover the cost of building a new fire station near Bonita, and a new police headquarters to be built on 8th Street.
