Northeast volunteer firefighters and Meridian's Rescue One, Lauderdale County deputies and Metro Ambulance responded to a one vehicle fatal accident at Ponta Hills and Lizelia roads, north of Marion around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday.
The driver, a female, was pinned beneath a vehicle and killed. A baby was hurt in the accident.
"The driver was unrestrained as well as the small child," said Sheriff Billy Sollie. "We're continuing the investigation. We're tired of putting bodies in the morgue. This is a situation where speed is a factor, but being unrestrained led to this disaster we've had today."
The victim's identity was withheld pending notification of family. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
