Students Make School Count

Meridian, Miss.
A record number 667 students were recognized Tuesday for exhibiting the kind of behavior that will help them be successful in life.

The EMBDC hosted a pizza party and presented a record number of School Counts cards. That means the students had at least 97% attendance, maintained at least a C in all their classes, are on target to graduate on time, and had no more than one office referral per semester.

"It's dealing with attendance and behavior issues and also becoming a better person," said School Counts recipient, De-Asia Harper.

"We do it because we're preparing tomorrow's workforce," said EMBDC president Wade Jones. "And these are the skills, these are the characteristics that the local community is looking for."

Participating businesses have agreed to offer preferential job interviews to students who have met the criteria of School Counts.
