The principal of Southeast Elementary School is running for Lauderdale County school superintendent.
Joey Knight announced his intention to run on Wednesday at the circuit clerk's office, as he filled out his qualifying papers.
Knight is running as a Republican. He will oppose Democratic incumbent David Little.
The qualifying deadline for all candidates is Mar. 1. The general election is Nov. 4.
