Meridian, Miss. The leader of the Mississippi National Guard says the return of the air refueling tankers to Meridian is the best news the guard could have received.
Meridian's Air National Guard Base learned several weeks ago that the familiar KC-135 tankers would be returning. The first one arrived Monday. Seven more are on the way.
Adjutant General Augustus Collins says this is great news for Meridian and Mississippi.
"We were kind of in a state of flux, didn't know what kind of aircraft we would be flying here, or if we would be flying at all," said Collins. "But we were able to convince some people that Meridian is an air refueling wing, and we need to get those KC-135s back here."
Collins was in Meridian to speak to leaders at the EMBDC's Business Before Hours.
