The manager of Meridian Regional Airport has received the FAA's 2002 Commercial Service Airport Manager of the Year Award.

Tom Williams was credited for expansion at the airport and five consecutive airfield inspections without a safety discrepancy.

"One of the tough parts of this job is, it takes so long to make something happen. If you think you need a new building you've got to start 5 to 10 years ahead of time to get it designed and built for when you need it," said Williams. "So you have to use the crystal ball a bit and project what you think is going to happen in the community over that period and be ready for it."

Williams said the first step in preparing for the future is a new aircraft parking apron--set for initial construction later this year--to accommodate a new terminal building and possible jet service in the future.
