The principal of Poplar Springs Elementary School has been named the 2013 Administrator of the Year for Mississippi's Third Congressional District.
LaVonda Germany has 22 years in education. She has been principal at Poplar Springs Elementary since 2008. She received her bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and educational specialist degree from Mississippi State University.
"We are extremely proud of Mrs. Germany and all of her accomplishments at Poplar Springs Elementary School. The data shows that she not only moved the school forward in the 2012-13 school year, but she has consistently moved the school forward for the last four years," said Meridian superintendent, Dr. Alvin Taylor. "This honor is truly to be commended."
Germany said she believes it is the job of the administrator to create a support system that allows faculty and staff to perform at the highest level.
Following an interview with each finalist, a committee will select the state Administrator of the Year. In addition to the
formal recognition by the state Board of Education, the winner receives a $5,000 salary supplement from the Mississippi Department of Education.
