Another plant in Clarke County has closed.
Recently, the sheriff's department locked the gates at Griffco Plastics in Quitman due to delinquent tax payments. According to county officials, the company owes almost $112,000 in back taxes.
"Clarke County is now in an economic slump," said tax collector Donna Scrimpshire. "So, as the tax collector I have to do everything I can in my power to collect delinquent taxes. It's not a nice thing to do but it's the law."
At one time, Griffco employed about 50 people. If the delinquent taxes are not paid within 60 days, the county can auction the company's equipment.
