Recommendations from a gubernatorial commission assigned to make plans to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina include proposed building codes, work on U.S. Highway 90 and affordable housing.
The recommendations will serve as tools for local communities as they cope with challenges such as housing, transportation, sewage, roads, education, finance and other issues.
The report includes topics studied over the past few months by 10 issues committees set up within the commission.
Part of the report includes recommendations that came from brainstorming sessions in which more than 100 urban designers, architects and planners and counterparts from Mississippi drew up plans for 11 communities.
